Now, how long until we get there? brings together a series of intricate cut paper works that explore motherhood as a container—something that holds, shields, constrains and restricts. Repetitive handmade cuts echo the cycles of parenthood, resulting in slowly built works which are both chaotic and fragile. Densely packed with imagery, Vought fills the picture plane with figures, fragments, and textures that reflect the overloaded, nonlinear experience of care and daily life.

Embedded in the paper are references to mythological and iconic maternal figures—Demeter, the Virgin of Guadalupe, and others—who carry stories of protection, rupture, grief, and transformation.

Flowers and cactus appear throughout as sculptural elements—both decorative and defensive. In desert environments and her native New Mexico, cacti are often planted on walls to keep people out. These forms act to disguise and quietly warn—meant to beautify and deceive, but also to protect what lies behind them.

Ahora, cuanto tiempo falta para que lleguemos? es una serie de trabajos de papel cortado que exploran la maternidad como algo que contiene, que sostiene, que protege; pero también algo que limita y restringe. Los cortes repetitivos hechos a mano reflejan los ciclos de la paternidad. El resultado final es una obra construida lentamente que es caótica y frágil al mismo tiempo. Llena de imagenes, Vought pone figuras, fragmentos y texturas que reflectan la experiencia de cuidando y la vida cotidiana.

Su plástica hace referencia a figuras mitologicas y a figuras maternas que todos reconocen como Démeter, la Virgin de Guadalupe y todas aquellas que cuentan historias de protección, rapto, dolor y transformación.

Flores y cactus aparecen por todas partes como elementos escultóricos, tanto decorativos como protectores. En entornos desérticos y su natal Nuevo México, los cactus estan ubicados en los paredes para mantener a la gente fuera. Esas formas actuan para ocultar y advertir calladamente su propósito de embellecer y engañar, pero tambien proteger las cosas que hay detras de ellos.
